Drops climbing uphill on an oscillating plane

In a recent paper (Brunet, Eggers and Deegan, Phys. Rev Lett. 99, 144501) it was shown that small drops of fluid can climb up an oscillating, inclined plane. In collaboration with Eugene Benilov at the University of Limerick, I have been studying various models of this process. We think that surface tension and inertia are the key ingredients that explain this phenomenon. In this project, you would investigate various models of this process.

The project will involve: (i) numerical solution of the governing equations, (ii) asymptotic solution of the governing equations, (iii) comparison with experimental data.
