Thesis Title | Sparse regression methods with measurement error for Magnetoencephalography |

Thesis Abstract | Magnetoencephalography (MEG) is a neuroimaging technique that is used to map brain activity. This is done by measuring the magnetic fields on the surface of the head whilst the patient performs a given perceptual or cognitive task. From the data, the challenge is to use the field distribution to reconstruct the distribution of the currents inside the head. However, the problem may have any number of possible solutions (an ill-posed problem). Therefore, we look at optimisation in order to find the best solution of the inverse problem. This project looks at some of the approaches that are applied to the ill-posed problem, such as beamforming and the minimum-norm approach. |
