Thesis Title Mathematical modelling of brain tumour growth and therapy
Thesis Abstract This project will explore the use of mathematical models to help understand the dynamics of brain tumour growth and therapy. It will begin with a survey of the literature on brain cancer modelling, from the use of ODE models, through to recent developments in PDE modelling that use brain imaging data to predict anisotropic tumour spread. The project will then engage with experimental work going on within the Children's Brain Tumour Research Centre at the University of Nottingham (CBTRC, http://www.cbtrc.org). In particular, mathematical models will be developed for new forms of therapy under investigation, and for 3D in vitro experimental models under development to improve drug testing. These models will share a number of common features, including drug and nutrient transport, cell proliferation and death, which can be modelled in diverse ways, from partial differential equations to individual-based and hybrid models.
