Thesis Title Hydrodynamic limits of Ginzburg-Landau Vortices
Thesis Abstract We use the Ginzburg-Landau model to study the vortex motion in type-II superconductors in the mixed state. There is particular interest in how external current affects the vortex motion and considering the limit of many vortices existing in the system. In a more realistic model we accommodate for impurities in the superconductor which cause pinning. The effect of pinning is to make it energetically favourable for vortices to exist in a certain position in the superconductor. Thus, when considering vortex dynamics, it is of interest to study how pinning forces affect vortex motion and energy dissipation.
