Thesis Title Optimum quantum algorithms for communication and metrology
Thesis Abstract Determining which particular resources are needed to surpass the best available performance of classical devices in relevant information processing tasks is a fundamental and timely problem with far-reaching implications. This project will focus first on the derivation of benchmarks to establish the best classical protocols, and then on the design of optimised quantum protocols exploiting minimal quantum resources to outperform the classical thresholds. Examples of targeted tasks are quantum state transfer, amplification and cloning. The project will furthermore investigate optimal solutions for metrology in noisy environments, combining parallel and sequential strategies and embedding feedback control loops to protect a supraclassical precision scaling. It is expected that the theoretical results will be of direct impact for experimental implementation of quantum technologies.
