I am Professor of Gravitational Physics in the School of Mathematical Sciences and in the School of Physics and Astronomy. My research focuses on when and how General Relativity begins to fail as a theory of gravitation and whether this breakdown can be probed with observations and experiments. Pursuing this question involves research in alternative theories of gravity, black holes and compact stars, and observational signatures of strong gravity, such as gravitational waves.

I am currently Director of Research in the School of Mathematical Sciences and an elected member of the university’s Senate (2020-2023).
